I’m that person who cannot go out without a coating of bug spray on. I tell my husband it’s because I’m so sweet……I think he has other ideas of why….hahahaha! I hate the thought of what all those scary chemicals are in the name brand store bought repellents. If I can’t pronounce it or spell it…it’s probably some bad stuff. So I just like the idea of homemade everything and why not your own bug spray too. I have made my own using essential oils. It’s easy, smells fantastic and works great! 😊
Here’s what you need:
6 ounces witch hazel
1/2 teaspoon each citronella, grapefruit and lemongrass. I use these.
1/4 teaspoon tea tree oil (optional but recommended). I like this one
1 ounce vodka.
Mix all ingredients and add to spray bottle. Shake well before each use. I used rose geranium in mine. It is a tick and flea repellent and so is the eucalyptus. I recommend always using the citronella eo in this recipe but you can play around with the essential oils you prefer and use the basics of this recipe. Peppermint, lavender, lemon eucalptus are also really good bug repellent choices.
I put mine in a few 2 ounce spray bottles. They are a handy, portable size. Enjoy!
